The Thomas Family Tree
A Blaenavon Branch
My ancestors - like the Mortimers in the wonderful novel "Rape of the Fair Country" by Alexander
Cordell, worked in the mines and steelworks of Blaenavon gone by. This proud Welsh valleys town
rose from obscurity to become a major coal mining and iron producer and was also father to the
birth of the modern steel process - invented by Percy and Sidney Gilchrist - which Andrew Carnegie
bought the rights too and went on to become somewhat rich from!
The family tree presented here is as much as I have managed to research up to now and should hopefully
be easy to follow. An index of names is also included for convenience plus a description of my parents
home town, Blaenavon in South Wales, which I wrote about ten years ago and which might give some
background to the names and faces to be found in our tree.
If you recognize and/or have any information on anyone in the tree then I would very much love to hear from you!
Please feel free to email me.
